November Roundup
November was a really fun month for me as an artist, so I wanted to pop on to talk a little bit about what’s been going on at ysabelyllustrates HQ (AKA my studio/living room set up) and reflect on what’s made it such a fun month, as well as recap some of the things I’ve learned in November!
A brightly coloured, risograph print textured illustration shows a red apple with a purple shadow, text in the upper right hand corner reads ‘A is for Apple’ in a monoline retro style font. The illustration is surrounded by fun mid century inspired squiggles.
I’ve been participating in an online course set up by the AOI (the Association of Illustrators) where I got to meet lots of other talented illustrators, and learn loads from some very interesting and knowledgable people! The course covered loads of topics and has given me so much food for thought about where to take my illustration career next, and how I can reach more and more lovely clients. I’ve been thinking a lot about the type of work I want to make and thinking a lot about what skills I need to improve on, which leads perfectly on to my next thing...
I’ve been working on building up my creative practice in area’s I felt I’d like to improve - I’ve been investing lots of time and effort into learning about illustrating lettering, as well as re-introducing area’s I’ve fallen out of practice with like surface pattern design.
I’ve had some really exciting colaborative opportunities (I can’t spill all the beans on absolutely everything just yet but once I’m in the clear I’ll hop on and let you know)
I got to see my work in print, which is my absolute FAVOURITE THING - my work was commissioned for JUNO Magazine and they were kind enough to send out a copy of the 2024 winter issue so that I could see it in the flesh! Every time I see my work in print out there in the real world it makes me so warm and fuzzy on the inside, it is the best feeling.
Ysabel is holding a copy of Juno magazine open at the page featuring her illustration of a sleepy toddler in a dinosaur costume holding a teddy dressed in the same costume.
November was fab, and we’re already well and truly stuck into December - so if I don’t post again before Christmas, just know that I’m wishing you a very happy holiday season indeed!
